Stripe A Pose Blouse

This my friends is Rocsi Diaz wearing the mark. Stripe A Pose Blouse tucked brilliantly into a coordinating striped skirt which is also available for purchase.  The stripes at the collar in contrast to the the mirror print floral is so fresh and unique that it will make you stand out from the crowd in the best way possible.  Mixed prints are so on trend and so is black and white, and while the stripes pull the look together and give it that masculine professional edge, the floral print gives it that feminine finish for an overall fun, fresh look.

Avon True Color Eyeshadow Single - Aqua

Avon True Color eyeshadow single in the shade Aqua.  Can we just talk about this eyeshadow for a minute because I think this is the type of color that tends to scare some people when it comes to experimenting with makeup.  I have to admit that for someone like myself who is not afraid at all of color I am less likely to use light blues than any other color mainly because of the millions of shades that exist it is just my least favorite of them all and let's face it... aqua is just a few points of green on the chromatic scale away from blue, so when this color came up to buy in my random selection way of trying new products in the Avon line (Yes I choose items to buy completely at random.  I told you I'm not at all afraid of color.) I was a little less than excited about it for a few reasons.  1. because of the order of my personal color preference and 2. because colors like this can be harder to sell to people based on their fear of color or their misconception that particular colors are not allowed to be worn at work (which I have always found to be not the case) or their silly notions that there are colors they don't look good in (also false because it's not WHAT you wear it's HOW you wear it) or just their basic intimidation stemming from their self-doubt in their own ability to know how to wear or apply makeup.  I find that colors like this require a lot more smooth talking, arm twisting, confidence building, and in some cases even begging to get a timid makeup wearer to even consider it.  So when I end up with a color like this I cringe a bit basically in laziness knowing I'm going to have to work harder than usual in the near future.  I always win in the end, but work is work no matter how you look at it.  So, if you are one of those people that I just listed then let me be the wind beneath your aqua wings because this at it's most basic level just a really pretty color.

The swatch you see below is a bit heavy, but you get the idea.

My one complaint about this particular shadow (and I always look for one thing that could be improved in every product and am always honest about my thoughts) is that in my opinion, when it comes to bright colors you really need the powder to ultimately be completely opaque and not at all powdery.  The silkier the shadow the better when the color is bright.  If you can see the skin through it bright color gets contaminated and you lose the intensity almost as if it had been watered down to some extent and the matte finish on this one is not helping in that category at all.  The colorants in this shadow appear on the skin more like a staining colorant would AFTER you tried to wipe it off only to find the skin stained by the colorant and less like a solid pigment that is not soluble in water appears on the skin.  Now, don't get me wrong... this shadow does not stain the skin.  I'm just trying to explain how it performs in the best way I know how, but you experienced makeup girls will know what I mean.  You are going to have to use an opaque white base under this shadow or some other buildable base to get it to perform the way we like our bright colors to look.  The upside is that for someone who is afraid of color they can ease their way into it and over time as they get comfortable with seeing the changes in the mirror they can use more advanced application techniques to get a more intense result in the end.

If I had to say just one thing about this shadow I would say just try it.  This is about as easy as it will get in the grand scheme of things when you need some time to figure out how to make color work for you.  http://showard.avonrepresentative.com/

Avon Makeup Maven Haul

As my internet friends know, I am Avon's Northeast Regional Makeup Maven which makes me an Avon Color Brand Ambassador.  This means that every few months a box of goodies shows up at my door for me to use and talk about if I feel so inclined.  Here are a few photos of the contents of the box I received most recently.

I have talked many times before all over the net about the new Ultra Color Lipsticks even doing an entire video about them on YouTube.  In case you missed it the gist is that with Avon's new True Color Technology the vibrant color you see in the tube is exactly how it will look on your lips.  No secretly sheer barely pigmented colors in the bunch and with the clear cap you can easily see which color you need in your stash of 55 vivid stay-true colors.  The color in these lipsticks actually renews itself as you wear it so it will be just as bright when you take it off as it was when you put it on.  The newest edition to my lipstick family shown below is the satin finish color Crush.

A deep rich teal is a very popular color for fall 2013 and Avon was sure to give it to you in this limited edition True Color Eyeshadow Quad called Savage Beauty.  Pictured here you can see not only the limited edition packaging, but you can see that each shadow is numbered with an eye chart on the back of the packaging showing you a foolproof way to apply them.  You can also see that the palette includes a mixture of finishes so the matte addicted shadow wearer is not left out.

Up next is the Urban Splatter Nail Enamel in Blackout.  Inspired by the graffiti nail art trend this polish comes in 6 different shades and can be layered over any nail polish color.  Filled to the brim with white and black large and small hexagonal shapes, glitters, bits, and strips this edgy nail finish is perfect for fall and tops off the Moto trend like a VP in leather chaps tops off a Harley.

America's #1 eyeliner is now dual ended!  You have five options to choose from.  The pencil I have here is the Glimmersticks Dual Ended Liner in The Classic which as you can see is black on one end and a dark brown on the other.

With the new Gell Finish 7-in-1 Nail Enamel you can skip the salon and the UV lights and get a mani with shine, a gel-like finish, vivid color, base coat, top coat, protection, and strengthener all in one.  It comes in 12 different shades and doesn't require anything special other than just regular old nail polish remover to take it off.  The beautiful peacock green color I have here is called Envy.

You asked for it and you got it!  The Perfect Eye Brow Kit is a powder and wax duo that comes in 4 different shades.  Use the wax to prep and shape the brows and then use the color to fill in and define.  The color you see here is Deep Brown (and before you ask the Nailwear Pro+ nail polish color I am wearing in this picture is a limited edition color for fall called Savage).

The Wrapped in Velvet Eyeshadow Palette comes in two different choices.  The one you see here is called Crushed Velvet.  Either palette includes 4 metallic shadows and a matte liner all of which can be used wet or dry.  You see them finger swatched here dry, so you can imagine the intense finish you can build up to with these palettes.  Before you matte addicts pout over there being no matte shadows just know that I have been using the liner as a shadow also to define the outer v just fine and it is after all called Wrapped in Velvet.  A velvety finish is exactly what you get.

Next up is a special mark. surprise!!!  The mark. On the Dot Lip Color Compact.  This is the lip version of mark.'s best selling eye compact and includes 9 different glosses.  For swatching purposes I just barely tapped the tips of my fingers in and as you can see you get a mix of sheer and creamy colors some with buildable intensity, some with shimmer, some with shine.  There is something for everyone here and none are too intense for even the most meek of lipcolor wearers.

Lastly we have the Cream Blush and Highlighter Duo.  Sadly this only comes in one shade currently but if we scream and yell loud enough maybe they will give us more colors to collect.  That being said, the color they chose in this rich creamy peachy tone and this golden highlighter which gives you just a touch of healthy glow is the perfectly universal choice for this dual-ended product.

Of course all of these products are available for purchase at youravon.com/showard and you will be seeing them in different looks I'll be sporting over the next few weeks.  As always, don't forget to subscribe for more beauty and fashion updates and leave your comments and questions below.

Back To School Beauty Essentials - College Edition

It's that time again!  The dreaded back to school time...  Dun Dun Dunnnnnnn...  Actually, for most of you heading back to college and away from parental supervision is super exciting and couldn't get here soon enough.  Whether you are an old pro at back to school shopping for college or this is your first time this will be a well rounded list with all of the essentials you will need.  As you know I am an Independent Avon Representative and I was also a triple major back in my college day.  (Pretty impressive right?)  So basically what I'm saying is I'm old and wise and over educated.  I've been there, done that, and I buy myself lots and lots of stuff including what I'm about to show you today.  Basically I'm a pro on this topic and know what I'm talking about soooooo let's just get to it shall we?

Most important thing straight out of the gate for a college student to keep in their pocket, bookbag, and at their desk is lip balm.  You will be walking and walking and walking, and did I mention walking from hot to cold to warm to humid through rain and snow and sleet and ice in the sun and in the wind and you will need it.  Let's face it.  There is a good chance many of you will get your first kiss in college too, so you may as well be prepared.  My favorites and the most fun for the season are the Halloween themed Flavorful Lip Balms.

I mean seriously!  How awesome are those and even though you are grown up you aren't THAT grown up yet, so why not have a little fun on your lips?

Next you need a great skincare routine.  Yes!  It's official!  You are old enough to start taking proper care of your skin.  A great starter line for normal skin is the Elements Skin Revitalize line.

These products are going to even out your skintone while giving you a more radiant complexion AND they are suitable for sensitive skin, so no worries if you are a skincare first timer.  This will work for you even if you know next to nothing about skincare.
Pay close attention to that 2-in-1 Brightening Eye Roller.  You will need that to reduce the puffy undereye bags from too much studying, not enough sleep, and to brighten the dark circles from all of the hangoverrrrrrr... err... hanging upside down you will be doing every morning when you get up early to do ab curls to keep off the Freshman 10.  Yeah.  Working out.  That's what I meant.

You are also going to need a great cleanser.  Choose the Elements Moisturizing Cream Cleanser for a lightweight oil-free formula or the Purifying Gel Cleanser for a deeper clean without drying out the skin.

If you are acne prone or tend to breakout from stress you probably should choose the Clearskin Professional line instead of the Skin revitalize line.  It is designed to reduce and help prevent acne blemishes, control surface oil, and the glycolic acid in it helps to retexturize the skin

Let's be honest.  You are a college student.  You are going to have late nights, late mornings, all nighters, and many activities that you might be sworn to secrecy about. You will be rushing from a gym class to a Chemistry lab, going from a sports practice to the student union, sleeping in your makeup, wearing it well past the 24 hour mark, and even possibly having things smeared on it during a hazing ritual which I of course would not know anything about.  In these instances you are going to need something reliable to cleanse yourself off in a pinch.  I would recommend the Elements Refreshing Cleansing Wipes.  They require no water, leave no greasy residue, and are also suitable for sensitive skin.

Preferably you should be using your Moisture Effective Eye Makeup remover Lotion, but I'm a realist.  Order the wipes in bulk.

Speaking of things you need to buy in bulk (the idea here is to not see your parents for a few months which means the money tree is going to probably be out of reach, so take enough to get you through Christmas break) you need lots and lots and lots of  Naturals Antibacterial Mini Hand Gels and a couple of the Mini Antibacterial Holders to go with them.  There should be one attached to your backpack, your keys, your gym bag, your cafeteria pass and anything else you can attach them to.  College kids are gross.  Their mom isn't there to clean up after them, they don't know how to do their own laundry, they sleep on bathroom floors praying to the porcelain gods, and they are virus magnets.  You will encounter more bodily fluids on a college campus than a teacher in the infant room at a daycare.  Trust me!  You need this stuff.

More bulk products... deodorant.  In fact, refer to the previous segment and buy some to share.  You will be doing yourself a favor.

More bulk items.  Everything you need for showering.  (Do NOT be the guy that people are bringing the extra deodorant for.)  I happen to love the Skin So Soft Signature Silk line which has everything you need from body washes to lotions to bath oils to hand creams.

Hair care.  You need shampoos and conditioners.  Take your pick from the Advanced Techniques line and grab yourself a bottle of the 360 Nourish Moroccan Argan Oil Leave-In Treatment (the only item on the page that I received for free while touring the R&D facility during my trip to New York) while your at it.  It will help your hair survive the elements and also keep it shiny and more manageable until you can get home for the holidays and get another trim.

And trust me when I say you are going to be less worried about how you look than you think.  The best hairstyle for the college student is the hassle free updo which means you will need something cute that keeps the flyaways in place while you study.  My pick are the Mark. Hold It Right There Pins.

You need sunscreen, but not necessarily a full body rub down every single day.  I love anything from the Bug Guard Plus line and while you are at it pick up some of the Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Picaridin Towelettes.  They are individually wrapped so you can throw one in your bookbag and just use it when you need it for that unexpected shirts versus skins game of midnight rugby on the quad.

Now we need to talk beauty.  There will be days when you leave the dorm before dawn and don't get back until... well... dawn.  You are going to want your makeup to hold up the entire time.  Enter MagiX Face Perfector your new best friend.

Waterproof mascara.  You will be walking in the wind and rain and cold and you just never know when you will be blindfolded for an experiment in your Experimental Psychology class just to find out after that you walked all over campus the rest of the day with mascara down to your cheekbones from it and not one of the 1200 people you came into contact with had the courage to tell you about it.  True story!  I repeat!  Waterproof Mascara!

Super Drama Waterproof Mascara

You need to have just a little fun so grab the new limited edition fall colors of nail polish.  Sometimes you just need to blow off a little steam with some good old fashioned fun with color.

Nailwear Pro+ in Untamed, Savage, Racy, and Tempted

And now we get super practical.  COMFORTABLE walking shoes!  Go get you some!

Curves for Women Strong and Fit Sneaker

Stretchy comfortable pants for studying and walking and sitting and sleeping and gaining 10 pounds and... oh you get the picture.

Curves Pant with Support Band

Something warm AND stylish

Wrap and Style Three Pack Scarves

And of course you need practical items for the dorm room like the 3 Section Laundry Tote which is like laundry sorting for dummies AND you can use it to transport the dirty stuff down to the communal laundry room easily, the All-Purpose Caddy to carry your shower items to  the communal bathroom, the Not-to-Forget Doorknob Caddy which is so you (how do I say this nicely?) don't forget to grab your important sh&t, and the Large Cascading Filing System which is perfect for multiple subject organization with easy access and snaps closed for on the go.

AND last but not least if you think we have forgotten the men then see below

You need it?  We've got it!

So in summary... you need stuff... we've got all that stuff you need... go here to buy it... and HAVE FUN!  The full college experience only happens once, so work hard, meet people, and enjoy every second of it!  See you after finals!

A Day In The Beauty Life - Journal Entry 5-22-13

My life in the beauty world tends to have beauty and fashion activities sprinkled throughout it and today my beauty day went a little bit like this…  First I painted my nails with two coats of Avon’s Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel in Jade.

I had been leaving them clean since the weather was getting a bit warmer.  Usually in the summer I paint my toenails and let my fingernails breathe, but the next week is only supposed to be in the upper 60’s lower 70’s which means my toes will stay covered, so I decided I may as well add some color back to the nails.  I was going to add a clear coat over the top later in the evening but fell asleep before that ever happened as we beauty girls sometimes do.  Sleep didn’t happen before I got in E! News,  two episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond, and two episodes of The Nanny though!  Don’t you just love reruns?  I did miss Chelsea Lately however.  Just couldn’t hold out long enough.

Prior to sleep but after polish it was time to dig out the products I will be featuring over the next two weeks.  As you know I sell Avon and a new catalogue comes out every two weeks, so prior to each catalogue launch I scour them to decide what product I want to feature each day during those two weeks.  Here is a sneak peek into the products you will see me sporting and talking about during this time.

Of course for every Avon item I feature I also feature at least one non-Avon product, but you will have to stay tuned to my social media sites to find out what those products will be.

On a non-makeup note: I watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.  Thank you Redbox for the free stream!  I actually quite liked it which was surprising to me.  It wasn’t what I expected which might have made me like it more than I would have if my expectations had been spot on ahead of time.  Does that make any sense?  I wasn’t expecting to like it.  I had expectations of how it was made which had they been true would have ensured my not liking it.  It did not fit those preconceived notions which made me end up liking it after all.  If I had known ahead of time how it ACTUALLY was made I might not have liked it quite as much as I did, but would have still probably liked it to some extent.  Ultimately the pleasantly surprised aspect of my liking it probably made me like it more than I would have in the previous sentence’s explanation of possible outcomes.  And now that you are thoroughly confused I will see you in the next A Day In The Beauty Life journal entry.

Far Away

Every day is so different and still always so much the same.  After springing ahead yesterday for Daylight Savings Time and getting up an hour earlier than early usually is I thought for sure I would knock out super early.  That didn’t work out the way I expected.  After watching 2:00am come and go I finally slept only to awaken again just after 5:00am.  I rolled around and around listening to the pouring noisy rain and the gutters that don’t work properly due to lack of proper maintenance on my apartment managements part flooding over onto my porches, air conditioning unit, window sills, and into the pools around my foundation which ultimately will be the water that is and will continue to flood my basement knowing I had to sleep and wondering if the need for extra sleep lately has been fueled by the possibility of fighting some lurking illness.  Of course as 9:00am rolled around I was finally feeling sleep lingering just around the corner.  It’s odd to me that waking up at 11:00am suddenly made me feel much more like an animal resembling human than I did prior to the miniscule 2 hours of sleep.  I decided recently though that I am going to allow myself to sleep whenever I feel like I need to unless I HAVE to be somewhere.  It doesn’t mean I will ever know what it’s like to feel well rested and refreshed, but it does mean that I am listening to my body to the best of my ability and trying to give it what it needs as much as I try at other things in life.

After completing the awkward task of writing my own bio for some PR related activities down the pipeline, having to ask important people to please resend an important email in another format since I’m the only person in the world that doesn’t have the appropriate business technology package on her computer, and doing hours of online research related to my business to stay up to date with pop culture and style only to see an article stating that Sarah Jessica Parker isn’t a fan of the Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries and deciding that SJP is the classic case of always says what would be politically correct in that sickening “I’m going to cute everyone into liking me” way that only actors exhibit and would never say that even if she really does hate it, I was able to settle in for a few evening shows and my normal nighttime routine of writing and editing.  It is always during this time that I reflect on how tired I always am and how inefficient I feel my day was or wasn’t and decide whether that given day was a good one or a not so good one.

Ironically tonight my pondering occurred while watching the latest episode of The Carrie Diaries (since many of the shows I choose to watch are selected due to their pop culture relevancy.)  I think a lot about how my life and experiences relate to the rest of the world and wonder how many of my friends felt tired today and tried to decide if they do is it because of Daylight Savings Time or the rainy grey day or do they suffer from insomnia like I do or is it just a blah Monday for some of them?  Don’t get me wrong.  My day wasn’t bad.  It was just one of those days heavy on the normal and light on exciting.  I needed something to stir my mind and my senses which came in the form of a scent.  I’m always changing what I wear and adjusting my routine because it is what I do and the basis of how I make a living.  In fact I make an effort to change it up in at least one way every single day.  It just so happens that my work dictates that today I change my fragrance.  The thing about fragrance is that it really has to suit a mood when you are trying to relax and perfumes don’t always invoke the same relaxing experience that say a candle might and every time I pull out a fragrance I haven’t used in a while I always wonder if this will be the fragrance disaster experience we all fear.  It had been so long since I have used this particular perfume that I almost couldn’t find it even though it was hiding in plain sight.  When I finally spotted the bottle of Far Away tucked down in my perfume sea I tried to mentally prepare for the experience I was about to invoke.  Would this scent match my need for a relaxing sleep inducing evening or would it fire up my brain and my senses?   Just before spraying I read over the fragrance description which is “dreamy florals, softly spiced amber and woods.”  Momentarily I was caught up in the mental debate evoked by the number of teacher friends I have of “should it be spiced amber and woods or spiced amber, and woods?”  Then I refocused and started to worry… florals… I’m not a fan of many florals.  Spiced… spiced often to me translates into mildly rancid and biting.  I started to worry that this might be a fragrance that would keep me up tonight too since those two descriptive words are often an indicator of a fragrance I don’t easily acclimate to.  So as I envisioned myself tossing and turning and not being able to get away from the scent on my pillow, my sheets, my hair I pressed down and sprayed… and the scent memory came rushing back to me.  It’s not a harsh fragrance at all.  In fact it is much more calming and soothing and subtle than many baby powder based fragrances that are typically considered to be the mildest of all fragrances available and are often marketed for young girls.  I was able to enjoy it for hours without feeling like I needed to run at top speed to try and get away from it.  It was new and interesting without being alerting and assaulting.

For tonight I think I will be able to relax and have my version of a good night’s sleep, but tomorrow’s agenda?   The dentist.
